There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, where gambling hall betting is not legal. Eight gambling halls are established in a relatively small location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect location, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal capital acquired from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a few restrictions constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; however, financial sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 1700, and although visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to cross, there are means around this, as is accurate of most border crossings.

The 1st Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only 1 gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked barge casino, contains 150 slots and sixty tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of blackjack, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long followed. There are 150 slot machines and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slot machine games and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and 66 of the common gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international vacation and hotel building that features a number of comforts in addition to the gambling den, which offers ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slot machine games and 88 gaming tables.
