Cambodia Gambling Dens

There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where gambling den gaming is illegal. Eight casinos are anchored in a relatively tiny location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in a prime destination, a three to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing income gained from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; although, investment sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are apparently needed to pass, there are methods around this, as is true of most border crossings.

The 1st Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked boat casino, features one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and sixty table games. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of 21, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are one hundred and fifty slots and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 one armed bandits and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and 66 of the familiar gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around resort and hotel complex that highlights numerous comforts in addition to the gambling den, which has ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slots and 88 tables.
